Toaster | JAN 2013

Copper | Ceramics

Toaster is a project within the theme, Reuse | Reduce | Recycle. We were first asked to disassemble modern artefacts and analyse what the parts are within the artefacts.

I asked myself which parts are critical and what roles do they play as a whole. I was particularly interested in the heating element in the blow dryer. It’s too beautiful to be hidden in the case. I would like to demonstrate the beauty of the heating element while using it. Toaster turned to me as its existence is usually very noticeable on the table. I then reduce the form of toaster archetype for the honest of its function and form. And final material choice is ceramic as heating element holder while the relief is there to protect hands from touching heating elements.
